HIGHLIGHTING TEXT- NO REPLACEMENT FOR MORE ACTIVE LEARNING METHODS

Reading for work or school, highlighting key information in a text with a highlighter is a good approach to stand out.

The digital age has swept over schooling and offices, particularly in the last year. What we do know is that an increasing number of students and professionals are studying, working, and submitting homework/assignments on computers. But even if we say we can't play with highlighters? Just nonsense!

There is no substitute for highlighting text for more active and productive study approaches even if you are on the computer. The reason is, whether you're attempting to "do" anything productive or simply like highlighting things for fun, many times our brains and memory go blank. So, whether you student or professional and are trying to remember crucial words, draw attention to vocabulary terms or essential words that you should know but are having difficulty pronouncing or remembering or you are preparing your notes for a presentation, highlighters can be an effective technique to do all thins. Highlighting tools are also a fantastic way to teach the concept of annotating texts to students to increase their understanding.

Now as you have realized that highlighters are still into the game of productivity, let us harness a deep knowledge of different types of highlighters to ease you while selecting them. But before this you must know the following:

Time travel alter to the 60’s: Dr. Frank Honn designed the first highlighter in 1962, and Carter's Ink Company produced it under the patented name HI-LITER. Leaving the 60’s behind, the trademark is now owned by Avery Dennison Corporation, who purchased Carter's Ink Company in 1975.

HOW TO INTERACT WITH TEXT

You're probably aware that there are numerous varieties of pens available, such as ballpoint, fountain, rollerball, and so on to enhance academic performance. Similarly, highlighters are in the same boat as they are! They are available in a variety of inks, colors, and tip forms. Let’s review the best highlighter types:

JUMBO HIGHLIGHTER

Consider this style to be the biggest attraction! Jumbo Highlighter has a thicker barrel with a thick felt tip on the end. The large size makes it simple to find in your luggage, but it is a little more difficult to grasp.

GEL HIGHLIGHTER

If you want to have a smudge-free, non-bleeding experience, then gel highlighters should be your choice. The performance of these highlighters is best for Bible or Quran, or on non-porous surfaces.

GLITTER HIGHLIGHTERS

With a little glitter, you can make your notes sparkle and shine! This highlighter is more about style than substance, but it's certainly gorgeous and enjoyable to use. If you are looking for an additional dimension to your notes, journals, and art, then glitter highlighters must be on your desk, bag or pocket.

DESK STYLE HIGHLIGHTERS

If you are a person with a wide range of highlighting and underlining needs, these desk-style highlighters in bright, vivid colors will create a major impression. These are copier machine compatible, and their long-lasting tip lasts even after highlighting on uneven surfaces.

The highlighter's function is to extract the most informative bits of a long paragraph. Once highlighted, you'll know which section of the book contains the information you require, allowing you to resume reading exactly where you left off the last time.

ERASABLE HIGHLIGHTERS

If you or your loved ones make mistakes regularly then erasable highlighters should be the selection as they work similarly to pencils. These highlighters allow you to erase any mistake and be perfect.

PEN-STYLE HIGHLIGHTER

These highlighters are an innovative combination of pen and highlighter. They have a multi-purpose chisel tip that is ideal for highlighting, underlining, and taking notes. Meanwhile, the pigmented, fluorescent ink dries quickly, producing bright, visible color.

RETRACTABLE HIGHLIGHTER

Retractable highlighters make everything apparent when information is important, and precision is required. You also don't have to worry about losing a cap as an added perk! Another side if you love enjoying the sensation of clicking and unclicking your pen? With a retractable highlighter, you can enjoy the same delightful click noise.

Highlighters are also differentiable based on their tips. They came with:

LINER FLAT TIP HIGHLIGHTER

They came with a linear flat tip that lets you see exactly what you are highlighting. Such highlighters are perfect when you are highlighting books and novels.

CHISEL TIP

This is perhaps the most typical highlighter tip. It's as flat as a linear flat tip but somewhat shorter.

BULLET TIP HIGHLIGHTER

This highlighter came with a rounded tip. It's ideal for highlighting, circling, and underlining material.

DUAL TIP HIGHLIGHTER

If you are a color lover and tired of keeping a lot of highlighters, then you must utilize this option. Dual-tipped highlighters have built-in colors, and they allow you to change colors without having to pick up a new pen.

WHEN USED WRONGLY, HIGHLIGHTERS ARE INEFFECTIVE

That doesn't imply they're ineffective. It just implies that you must understand what you are doing with it. Highlighters can help you take better notes, but there is a proper method to utilize them. But how can you know which ways to highlight are correct and which are incorrect?

There are a few common guidelines that apply to all circumstances using highlighting. Keep in mind that failing to adhere to these broad guidelines will usually render your highlighting ineffective.

GUIDELINE#1:READ THE TEXT FIRST

You can't possibly know what the key points are unless you read the chapter or article. As a result, you wind up stabbing in the dark, attempting to guess what the text's take-home meaning is. Our first recommended guideline is to read the text first and then walk away from it, consider what the takeaway was, and then return to it with the highlighter for a subsequent phase.

GUIDELINE#2:

KNOW YOUR PURPOSE

Before you begin reading, make a goal for yourself. Keep that goal in mind as you read and examine to see if you've accomplished it by the conclusion. Before you highlight, take a moment to reflect on what you've read and identify the important ideas. This will assist you in identifying crucial concepts and reducing mindless highlighting.

GUIDELINE#3:

LIMIT YOURSELF TO MINIMAL WORDS

You should only highlight one sentence or phrase each paragraph. Find the sentence that perfectly represents the core idea. The Thumb rule is just highlighting three words in a row. Instead of whole sentences, highlight relevant words and phrases. Before you continue reading, go back over these terms and phrases and challenge yourself on them.

GUIDELINE#4:

COLOR CODING

Select colored highlighters such as one color for definitions and key ideas, and another for instances. The most common highlighter colors include yellow, pink, blue, green, purple, and orange.

We hope this small effort can contribute a lot for selection of right highlighter as well as for highlighting text. Choose your next highlighter with care and by considering our rules.

Good Luck!
